The Barclays grants
programme is open to most voluntary organisations in England who have an income
or turnover of less than £50,000 per annum.
Applications from
Wales are also currently welcome. The scheme offers Grants of up to £150
towards new or expanding services or activities which directly benefit older
people.

How much to apply for
The maximum grant for 2007/08 under this programme is £150. We make a lot of
awards at the maximum level. Last year 128 Awards were made, with the average
award being £142.

Barclays update
Between November, 2007 – July 2008 Grants are available towards the cost of
celebrations, outings, or one off events, e.g. theatre trips, day outings,
Christmas parties etc. Barclays are keen to support these events and
therefore are happy to provide funding of up to £500 towards such
occasions.

2. Youth
grants in Northern Ireland

The Youth Council for Northern Ireland has launched three small grants
short term programmes that are looking for applications, for up to £5000,
to be submitted by 29th February. The 3 areas are: Equipment, Creativity

3. Seized
cash to fund youth projects
----------------------------------------------
A new £3 million grant scheme for youth projects across Scotland is to be
funded from the proceeds of crime. Scottish Government news release at

4. The
Edge Upstarts Awards, which
"recognise excellence in all aspects of
social enterprise, including providing a rich learning environment for the
young and disadvantaged", are open for nominations to 18th May. Categories
are Social Entrepreneur of the Year, Social Enterprise of the Year, Young
Social Entrepreneur of the Year, Social Enterprise Mentor of the Year,
Social Enterprise Trainee of the Year. See

million
Total available: up to
£38 million
Up to £38
million will fund projects of national significance that involve young people
in developing, running and reviewing policies and services and help deliver the
five ‘Every Child Matters’ outcomes.
Grants of up to £5
million are available (with an average grant size of £1 million) for projects
that work with young people across England. We expect to fund approximately 20
projects.
Key aspects of the
programme are as follows:
· Our focus is on changing the lives of young
people by putting them in the lead
· We will only fund projects that involve young
people from start to finish
· Grants will be available for up to five years
· All projects must have beneficiaries from
two or more of the nine England regions
· Only voluntary and community sector
organisations may apply.
